Mark Kirk’s Voting Record
Mark Kirk has consistently sided with the Bush administration and big oil companies over consumers. He voted for billions in tax breaks to the big oil companies, against protecting consumers from price gouging, and accepted over $50,000 in contributions from them.
Mark Kirk helped Bush draft the resolution sending our troops to war, and since then voted 16 times to rubber-stamp Bush’s failed Iraq policy and spend over $650 billion. Kirk has consistently voted against the needs of our veterans, including health care, and even cast the deciding vote against providing members of the military with a bonus.
With over 1500 foreclosures in the 10th district, Mark Kirk has consistently voted against protecting consumers from predatory lenders, against keeping homeowners from being foreclosed upon, and even against providing tax credits to first-time homebuyers.
Kirk is out of touch with economic concerns in the district. While Illinois has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, Mark Kirk said, "I know that others think this is a big issue, but I've heard very little. I have a very high-income district." Maybe that's why he voted twice against the Emergency Extended Unemployment Compensation Act of 2008.
The next president is inheriting the largest deficit in U.S. history, debt that will be passed down to our children and grandchildren. It doesn’t help that Kirk voted to support each one of Bush’s record deficit spending budgets between 2002-2006.
Mark Kirk is in the pocket of the pharmaceutical industry, which has contributed over 100 thousand dollars to his campaign. Maybe that’s why he voted against a prescription drug-importation program and against allowing negotiating for lower drug prices. Kirk even voted against funding for children’s health care.
Mark Kirk has repeatedly said he opposes Barack Obama’s candidacy and that he believes his plans are wrong for the country. Kirk even criticized Dan Seals for supporting the “Obama Agenda.”
Vote for Change
Do the rising deficit, high gas prices, and endless war have you saying enough is enough? Are you ready to put an end to more of the same? You’re not alone.
Congressman Mark Kirk has supported the Republican leadership nearly ninety-percent of the time in Congress. A vote for Mark Kirk is a vote for the policies of George Bush.
In every corner of the district, the call for change rings clear.
On this site, meet Independent, conservative, and Republican voters—young and old, parents, grandparents, and veterans—in Illinois’s 10th District talking about their frustrations and why they are saying no to more of the same. They know what it’s like to live in the 10th, raise a family here, and work here. They also know we’ve seen better times.
They will tell you: A vote for change—a vote for Dan Seals—has never been more important.
